Selling Crafts to Your Fellow Moms

Other moms are a huge pool of potential customers that too many other moms neglect to tap into it. Selling your crafts to moms is a huge market, as they are in your key target market for many crafters. But many womenjust do not feel comfortable approaching others. They are afraid of being too pushy, but there are many ways you can sell to other moms without being pushy, and with hardly any effort.

But how can you do it successfully without alienating others? The key is being casual about it, without trying to force your catalog or product upon poor unsuspecting moms.

And how can you do this? It is actually remarkably easy.

When you take your kids to ballet lessons, hockey practice or storytime, be approachable to other moms - in other words, don't bury yourself in a magazine in the corner of the room. Sit near where all the other moms sit , even if you don't know them (you soon will!) Once a conversation strikes up, the conversation will eventually turn to what you do for a living. This is when you can bring up your craft business.

Whether you sell homemade soaps and candles or custom needlework, casually bring up what you make, then mention if they are ever interested in looking at the products, you have a brochure/catalog/order form she can look at. Most moms will ask to see it, whether out of true interest, curiousity, or just the sake of looking at something to pass the time. While they look, you can do a casual sales spiel. Keep it non-pressure, and end with "keep me in mind if you ever want to order."

Not surprisingly, you could have an order that day, or at the very next meeting.

If she seems genuinely interested, and you haven't yet offered her anything related to your business, you can offer a catalog, order form and business card, so she can contact you. This could also encourage a sale if she is is sitting on the fence as well.

The most important thing is to keep it non-pressure. And often, other moms will come by to see what the interest is, increasing your sales even more. But as soon as you become pushy, you could easily turn these fellow moms off, so tread carefully, and see your craft business sales increase!
