Selling
Seconds: Marketing Your Craft Mistakes
Once you become established
in your craft field, selling your craft mistakes and seconds can bring
in a little extra money, and make your products affordable to those who
may not otherwise be able to buy them.
Many crafters will not sell
their seconds under the same company name as their premium craft business.
They will either create an entirely different business name for the sole
purpose of selling their seconds, or they will create a business or line,
which is marketed as "A Division of XYZ Crafts".
By setting up as a secondary
company, this can prevent any pricing confusion between customers who
are accustom to paying regular prices for your regular craft items.
Some craft fairs also have
policies against selling "seconds" as well. If you ever plan
on offering discounted seconds, always check with your craft show contract
to see if there are any policies forbidding this.
