What Are Pop Up Ads

Pop-up ads generally come in two varieties. The first is the more benign that is triggered by visiting a web page. The second is much more malicious and is caused by an adware program that somehow was installed on your computer.

To prevent pop-ups triggered by a web site itself, you can install pop-up blocker. The Google toolbar was the first mainstream toolbar to offer a pop-up blocker. Since then Yahoo has followed suit. And Windows XP service pack 2 also has a pop-up blocker installed.

If the pop-ups are triggered by spy ware or ad ware out your computer, you will need to use a spy ware removal tool to get rid of the root cause, the spy ware itself.
