Craft
Kit Designer
If you already create original
craft patterns (see Craft Pattern
Designer for more info) you can earn many more times the amount of
the pattern by offering it in a kit form complete with all supplies.
You will need to research the
supplies and determine where you can get the supplies. Having a tax ID
and a resale number will let you purchase the neccessary supplies wholesale.
Best selling kits have a clear
color photograph of the finished product on the front. With today's color
copier technology, quality color photocopies are suitable for most craft
kit pictures - exceptions include any needlework craft, as the best detail
may not be achievable with a color photocopier - take a photo into a print
shop for recommendations and quotes. You should also consider whether
your charts can be all black & white, of if you should have a two
or more colored chart.
You should purchase large "ziploc"
style craft bags that can be purchased wholesale or at a large craft supply
store. They come with a hole punched in the top so retailers can easily
hang the kits.
You can sell these directly
through mail order, or to retailers, or both. If you both ways, set a
retail price and always sell at that price so you are not undercutting
retailers - undercutting is a quick way to ensure retailers will never
carry any of your kits again. The wholesale price is usually about half
of the retail price. Also, do not include any order forms with kits sent
to retailers, as this will be seen as taking business away from them.
Feel free to include contact information in your kits, just not blatant
marketing attempts such as order forms.
